kristin.marvin 0 Posted August 19, 2008 My friends Angel and Steve got engaged recently and asked if I could take some photos of them. Here they are at a local beach. All comments/critiques very much appreciated. Looking to improve, of course! Thanks so much! Link to comment
mikeoday 0 Posted August 20, 2008 Great subject and composition; tight crop (no extraneous detail to distract from the subjects); placement of the girls hand and leaning into ‘her man’ creates a strong emotional connection; eye contact with the viewer portrays a strong message (at least to me) of “I’ve got him, he’s mine and I’m very happy”; contrast this with the guy looking away – we don’t know what he is thinking so this creates a pleasant tension; technically the range of tones is very good – the girls face is however a little shadowed, if you have access to one, using on-camera flash as a fill light can help to lighten the shadows in these circumstances and also create a ‘catch-light’ in the eyes. A great portrait of a couple celebrating a special moment in their lives – well done. Regards Mike Ps. I’m not sure if this a factor for other PN users but on my screen (1440x900) pixels it is not possible to view the entire image at once – to do so I had to copy it and reduce its size. This is a shame as I guess many might be put off by the effort or alternatively will not be able to see your image at its best. Just a thought … Link to comment
kristin.marvin 0 Posted August 20, 2008 Thank you for your comments. I definitely need to work on my fill flash- one disadvantage of the beach on a bright, sunny day is that I couldn't see the images on my screen so I had to try and take good shots and hope for the best. I am happy with the way it came out and appreciate your comments. :) I agree- I don't know why the photo is so large- I reduced it the same way I reduced all my pictures for this site. :/ Link to comment
