Why did I take this picture? Well, I was looking for subject in a dark

corner to try out ISO 1600 on the Canon 10D, and I ended up with this

and I like it. Any thought on composition would be appreciated. Dead

space on the left - wasn't sure if it would work but I think it has the right

amount of detail still there to be of some interest.

the main subject Line6 is a bit off focus. sice your camera is calibrated on grey 18% the black is not black but grey. cut out your exposure to -1f stop or less and you will see a big difference.

by the way, there was NO blurring done in post processing. The altered plane of focus was achieve using a tilt adapter with the lens.

Pierre. Many thanks for your helpful comments. I have just altered the black point on the histogram to darken the dark area and think this is perhaps better (see attached photograph). Re the softness of the "Line 6" text, I'm not sure if this is the result of focus, but rather a combination of the following: the lens was used wide open, the surface of the equipment is textured, it is covered in dust, and I didn't apply much sharpening to the final size image in post processing (images come quite soft out of Canon 10D). So I have also sharpened the picture a little more. Perhaps also noise reduction has something to do with it.

Thank you very much again for being so helpful and for taking the time to comment.

I saw purple tints on the first one and the second one you uploaded doesn't have it.

I am very fascinated with what you did.

hmmm

THIS is actually a great piece to calibrate your computer with. The lines and the white/gray.

I love the blur and the way it really has the different dof.

So how DARK was it?

amazing detail.

Hi Pete, long time... Interesting compsition with different flow of lines, especially on the L lower side, that creates contrast to the straight diagonals from the upper R corner tothe semi sircled on the lower L. The color tone and white letters are adding more interest to the whole.

My wonder only is what does this board serves for?

Hi Micki.

Thanks for your comments. It was quite dark - like in a dark corner of the room in low light with loads of clutter in the way - full shadow really. All I did on the image I uploaded second was to slightly clip the left hand side of the histogram to darken the darks. I could possibly have gone a bit further but didn't want to lose too much shadow detail.

Cheers again.

Pnina, many thanks to you too for dropping by and commenting on this photo. I know it's been a long time - work has been so busy and I have to watch my priorities. I will check out your portfolio again very soon. Hope all is well with you Pnina (and you Micki!).

The "Floor Board" is the foot operated control panel for my guitar amplifier. I haven't used it enough and it is covered in dust (hence the mark going from left to right through the letter "N".

Lovely surprise....you have wonderful taste in musical equipment. Line 6 is a station in our family garage. We have the floor board and 'pod'. I like the shot a lot. Maybe for someone unfamiliar to what it is, it might not be as attractive, but I like it, well done! :)P
