To me this is a fantastic portrait. Great lighting, composition, soft friendly innocent expression, and some color and a bit of texture from the hat. Great work. D-

Very, very good. I can't offer a suggestion except (perhaps) that her eyes could/should be as sharp as the hat. You seem to have really mastered this style.

Nicely done. Good color, textures, light and composition. My only suggestion would be to crop off a little more from teh bottom. JMO Dave

Don't take me wrong, this IS EXTREMELY good portrait, but I feel that the light is a bit too harsh even for skin that young. Being able to see those tiny red wrinkles under here eyes is a bit diturbing. I know we all trying to avoid photoshop as much as possible, but did you try to do selective desaturation in red channel just for those areas?

The hat is a little off tone in this -it makes a distraction from the face.

Your product is commercial viable and looks a lot like a painting. The only problem with dreamy looks is that there is this lack of connection with the viewer - a separation. I sort of wish your subject had engaged her focus rather than blanking out- the smile is great but the eyes failed you here.

I am having some uneasyness with the highlihts in the left eye.

A lovely portrait hurt by out of focus eyes.

Suspect the culprit to be autu-focus mode.I'm

also of the opinion that the overuse of zoom lenses is a giant step away from the quality of

imagery available from prime portrait lenses.

They're cheaper,contrastier,sharper and often

faster.

This is a wonderful photo - ever so slightly soft perhaps but in this instance, this isn't so bad. A great shot neverthless. I wish some of members who write negative comments would actually post some shots themselves so we can all see 'how it is supposed to be done'!!

Sta ima Vuk?

I've seen your photos before and yes, they are good, but it doesn't mean that this one isn't good. I think that this is a good quality photo of a little girl(?), good colors, good light, good framing. It won't win World Press photo contest but it will definitely win a sincere smile. IMO!

I started to comment on this series of photos before but I figured it was pointless to critique this because of the type of backlash that Vuk received. To me the hats the kids are wearing are way over the top and the expressions hardly seem genuine or honest. I suppose you either love this or you do not. Usually photos of children are sure winners but this seems way beyond staged if not in conception then in execution. The word sappy comes to mind but I think it's actually more exploitive than trite and an easy way out rather than a compelling portrait of the subject.

People should also note that there are a lot of good reasons not to post photos on a site where you are giving up primary control over your own work. I would not discount the voice of experience or intelligence based on what is or is not contained in the portfolios on this or any web sites other than the photographer's own.

This is a warm, beautiful portrait.

Vuk, I looked at your work, and you do have great artistic skill. Verna's work does differ from yours. Much of it does have an "in-studio" feel to it. You can disagree with that style, but still there is something wonderful captured here. Of the attached three crops from your (Vuk's) images, you can guess which is my favorite. The first two glare at me with distain. Is that what real art is about? Every picture does not need a smile, but those expressions come across to me as contrived. I really like the third image. It's warm, it's stylish, and it's real.

True, you and Verna are very different. But why not embrace the differences and appreciate her work for what it is? Even with your superb skills, if you'd come down to Earth for a bit, you may learn something from her.
