I am getting started, and I would like to know what people think.

The aperture on my lens is not the best for night work (but it is

the best I can do right now)

I have a couple of shots that were acceptable from this game, this

is one. Thanks for your time!

I am still learning the tech terms for photography. But if I haven't misunderstood anything, perhaps a faster film will help you in sports shots. I have taken only a few sports photos of my son's football team and I use that fastest film I can find to take them and they turn out great. Nice shot for just beginning ! Good Luck to you !!!

First, I like the exposure. The colors came out very well and the background is clean and uncluttered. The blurring captures the action nicely giving a sense of motion. Nicely done.

I, too, would have framed this a little differently. I would like to see just a little space off the right shoulder of the player in white and I would like to see much less unused field and black background on the right side of the image.

Since you mentioned that you were marginal on light and were looking for ways to get more, you might consider looking into a prime in the 200-300mm range. The lens would be probably 2-3 stops faster than the one you are using.

What shutter speed are you using. Amononpod might help with some of the background motion the other thing you could do is go over to Calumet or Pro Camera and rent a 70-200mm 2.8 lens for the weekend or 100-400 is lens. But you have acheived with this camera is a better understanding of how to take a good photo. If you have any questions regarding the D30 please email me at procam11@excite as i have been using this camera for the last eighteen months.

As a football nut starved by being Down Under i love this shot. In particular, I like the way the extremes of the shot are moving but the centre is frozen. Was this done with software?

Great shot

Love the colors. I would have cropped more space in front of the runner so he seems to have space to run into. Rent a 70-200 2.8 or 200 2.8, night football action shots are extremely difficult @300mm f5.6 :)

Good use of panning. Night highschool football sucks for light :) Don't know if this was intentional or just "all you could get" with the gear you have. Maybe a faster prime?

I would crop the deadspace on the right side. It doesn't need to be there, he's running the other way.

hey gil, i really like this shot and i think it works really well. The only imporvement for me has already been mentioned and quick to rectify. It would be to crop the right hand edge slightly. (maybe half the space at the edge as i think it adds to the movement having it there - even though he is running the other way.)

nice one.
