Working on fill flash. Flash compensation -1.5 My other photos are more than just "snapshots" and would like to elevate the level of my people shots, while remaining spontaneous.

Scott, In my opinion, to be successful, fill flash should keep the shadow-highlight ratio on shots like this no higher than 1:5 and no lower than 1:3 and not be obvious to the viewer. The catchlights show up fine on my monitor. Your fill flash ratio is excellent and if these are the skin tones of Superia 400 I certainly wouldn't hesitate to use it. (and I do use it) That said, if I knew ahead of time I was going to be photographing people close up I'd load up with Reala, NPH, or Porta NC 160/400 just to be safe. The biggest problem here as I see it is lack of sharpness. Not sure if it's a focus problem or camera shake. Worthy shot for the family album in any case. Best, LM.
