Some of your other stuff is better, may want to find models so you can relax into the details of lighting etc. Or just do the Life Model schtick.

I don't know what anyone means by "cliche" - I think this is an unusual image. The lighting needs work - there is some burnout in the highlights that could be corrected - but the concept and composition is very good indeed.

C.T. Jones ought to realise that a cliche exists only because it is good and has merrit, and is therefore worth repeating! I for one do not feel this is a cliche, even though the model's hair, and general composition makes me think of the more artistic, and teasing moments of Playboy magazine in the 1970's. Very teasing.

I don't think this one is cliche. I like the use of the grill to cover up enough that you can't entirely see the woman but see enough to feel like you're seeing all of her. Definetly sexy.

Amy, I have looked at a lot of your work and feel you are in a field of your own despite contrary remarks!

This particular shot is for me one of the best it shows a softness and gives a real sense of feeling. Being able to put this on film is one hell of a trick and no matter how technical people get this is a very special knack, one you obviously excel in. What I really miss in this picture is action or some kind of thought being expressed. I want some direction in here....

 

I see a naked woman somewhere behind there.... It's good for catching the attention, it makes you look through that grill to try and figure out what it is, but once you have seen the woman it becomes boring because she doesn't seem to be doing anything or give any kind of direction or thought....

 

Would be much better if you could maybe have her imply an action or have a certain expression on her face that makes you wonder what is going on with her... Then the picture becomes more interesting even after you have identified the woman behind the grill.

 

Very nice idea otherwise and I think it would be worth experimenting with a bit more.

I like this shot as it is semi-inviting - makes one feel like a voyeur. We are participating in the picture. I like the way the "X" covers her pubis. What I would like to see are her eyes - like she sees that I am looking at her.

Amy, from what I have seen of your work I must say that I am very impressed by the way you present sexuality in a tasteful and original manner. I agree with the reference to some of the work seen in Playboy in the 1970s, never vulgar, always with artistic merit. I agree that lighting seems to be the only concern I have with any of the pictures I have seen since composition seems to be well in hand. Good work.

I agree with an earlier comment that your portfolio contains much stronger, fascinating work. But, that being said, (and I hope this doesn't get taken the wrong way) I rather like the voyeuristic perspective that this photograph suggests. It does stand out as being somewhat different from the others in your folio (in terms of colour and lighting).

Doesn't do much for me...is the grill your subject? The nude behind it? Neither one is particularly interesting, either one would be better without the other.

Amy u said u were the photographer as well as the subject......how did u get to cover ur face and privates exactly behind the grill?????was it just plain lucky that u got it that way or u planned it out in real detail?????

 

anyway regarding the photo its good....especially since ur body is the only colored thing in the entire photo.....makes it stand out.......

Considering the difficulties of this self portrait shot, one does have to admire the result. I think it would have been more interesting if the camera were moved to the right a bit (or the model to her left). Also would like to see the model more centered. Too bad your left knee is cropped. Would suggest cropping the top and left edges of this picture a bit just to bring the model more toward the center (example attached). I like the lighting; it sets a certain mood.

This Picture falls together for one simple reason...you cant see her eyes. Slightly a bit hot on the light...I know you intended that but the sensual feeling you get would be more intense if you warmed it up...but thats just my opinion...Nice Image!

This whole folder is very original. The composition of all photos is just incredible. It's hard for many of us to achieve that while we behind camera, you managed to do that while being in front! If you could share your technic of self portraite with us-that would be great! Of course, very few of us would look as stunning in front of camera as you.
