I have found that Cleome is extremely difficult to photograph because it is so busy... especially in beds.

Because it is so wispy and busy, I have found that Cleome is extremely

difficult to photograph; especially when it is in a bed like the one

shown in this photo. So far, this is the best I have gotten that lets

the viewer experience the flower in its glory. Any thoughts on if

this works for you would be greatly appreciated.

As the photographer, I was reluctant to post the first Cleome photo because it is backwards. The subject is dark and hard to see, while the plants in the background stand out brilliantly. Which is exactly the problem photographing the flower itself. There is too much going on in the plant, so the subject always melts into the background. But given my frustration photographing Cleome, this is the thing that makes the photograph work for me.

 

The attached photo is more of a closeup where you can see that, while the flower is clearly the subject, it still doesn't have anything particular to draw your eye.

The image you have put up for critique, I quite like. These overall shots are so hard getting the composition just right. You have done well here!
