I like it. The legs at the top make it interesting.

What could I have done to make this picture better...

What process did you use to make the top part of the frame so soft? I understand it's probably outside the depth of field.. you used a 50mm 1.8.. and probably pretty wide-open, but looking at the dark 'vignetting' around the legs it can't be something simple like a digital soft focus filter. Do tell! (Another D30/ 50mm 1.8 owner)

It actually is a photoshop effect I stumbled upon. I take the orginal image and make a copy of it in its own layer. I then apply a gaussian blur (13 +/- pixels). I then adjust the blend to "Hard Light". Lastly, I adjust the Opactiy to my liking (10% - 60%). It is a nice effect, it is like have a polarizer and cross processing combined. Good luck!
