lex_photo 0 Posted July 20, 2008 My first time working with a model. Any and all advice, or critiques would be greatly appreciated Link to comment
msoskil 0 Posted July 20, 2008 It's certainly a powerful image, and there are many things that you did very well. The background works - it's rough and edgy, fitting in with the genre of music and personality of the model (I'm inferring from the pose and facial expression). The lighting is good, as is the compostion for the most part (see the exeption below). In any portrait, the eyes are crutial, and hers are certainly a positive in this photo. Two negatives I see: I would have left a little space above her head in the frame. Chopping her off up there leaves the picture a bit unfinished. Also, it looks like the guitar has slipped into her shirt a bit. It's a bit awkward. Overall, nicely done. Link to comment
jackmehta 0 Posted July 20, 2008 Alexa, I like this shot. No doubt Michael has made some valid points. But overall the photo comes out strong. I like the expression on her face, her direct stare as well as the choice of the background. Regards, Rajiv Link to comment
emilia_pylkk_nen 0 Posted July 20, 2008 Looks good Alexa! I like how that wall behind that "chick" looks old but chick looks so young and beautiful. Colors are great, fits together so nicely and that cropping looks too very good! Keep going, i wanna see more! Link to comment
lex_photo 0 Posted July 21, 2008 Thanks everyone. Michael I noticed the guitar inside her shirt right after I submitted it to the critique form. Too bad huh. The head was something that had accidentally gotten cropped when I took the photo, but I really liked the look so I was hoping that no one would notice, I know I became too attached to the photo. I have others though that I'll put up in the coming days. Thanks for the insight, I think I need to be more careful about all the details during the photo shoot. It seems hard to keep track of everything, hopefully its something that just gets easier with time. Thanks again for all the comments and insight it really is helpful and definitely makes me acknowledge all the mistakes and sloppiness that I sometimes try to get away with:). - Lex Link to comment

poto 0 Posted July 21, 2008 Hi Lex, Great image! Only one suggestion. From a musician's perspective, had I came across this image in a music magazine, I would think it was a great picture of a beautiful model pretending to play an electic bass. You might consider having the model position her fingers in a real music chord (left hand), and a proper strumming or thumping position (right hand). I only mention it because a musician would "pick up" on this. ;o) Tony Link to comment
lex_photo 0 Posted July 22, 2008 Rakesh - I am honored by your visit and comments. I hope to some day take portraits like yours they are wonderful. Tony - I agree, I'm a violinist and I have to say when you see someone pretend to play on TV and get the fingerings and bowing all wrong it's gut wrenching, I should have known better :) . We tried to teach her a few cords at the beginning of the shoot, but that didn't seem to stick, and I soon found myself not remembering to care. Again I think I'm realizing how much those little things matter, and how easy it is to get sloppy. Oh well all the more reason to go out shooting again. I'll try to remember not to submit this one to rolling stone. :) Thanks again to both of you - Lex Link to comment
