Portrait with Mantilla

A mantilla is a lightweight lace or silk scarf worn over the head and

shoulders, often over a high comb, by women in Spain and Latin

America. Malen wears a handmade Chantilly lace with crowd of flowers,

leafs and garlands.

Thank you Ilze, R Strawn and Roy! This picture has been at the back of my mind for some time...a way for me to pass my Spanish roots onto my daughter through this veil, the "mantilla"...

Am I twisted? I'm seeing death and stardust and bleeding hearts. Impressive image, but IMO not a happy one.

Very nice image. I think Les has a point ... this has somewhat of a haunting or after life feel to it.

Very beautiful...for some reason, Malen reminds me of a little Madonna (not the singer); the photo has a religious/pious feel to it. The clarity and colours are outstanding, and the heart is a nice touch.

As with so many of your portraits, you have achieved something wonderful with what is a often difficult subject. It is all to easy for portraits of children to be cute to the point of saccharine, but not with your photos. With your brilliant photos, there is a deep, slightly dark, understanding.
