bretsch 0 Posted July 19, 2008 Lake Powell, Az. This is the first time I submit a B&W and a Color version of the same picture, at once......I appreciate you telling me which one do you prefer, and leaving me any comment. Thank you Link to comment
Tanja 0 Posted July 19, 2008 I prefer color version because the photo is about nature and industry. Regards! Link to comment
stp 6 Posted July 19, 2008 In my mind, if color makes a significant contribution to the composition (as opposed to an image whose interest consists primarily of shapes, forms, and tones), then color should be included. This expanse of red rocks with steam climbing into a blue sky suggests to me that the color version should be preferred. Link to comment
ruudalbers 1 Posted July 20, 2008 Beautiful colours and lighting, very nicely composed, Juan Carlos! Best regards, Ruud. Link to comment
Un abrazo, Iker Link to comment
petespositives 0 Posted July 21, 2008 Hi JC! The composition of elements making up this picture are very pleasing. The colour version (on my monitor at least) is preferable to the B&W version... but both images are worth more than just a wee look. Best wishes Pete :) Link to comment
bretsch 0 Posted July 21, 2008 Tatjana, thank you for your visit and comment; indeed this is about the beauty of nature and the beast-fullness of industry. David, thank you; it's my favorite too ;) Stephen, I agree with you, besides the colors of this place scream to be well preserved; strangely enough, I've come across some amazing B&W of places with terrific colors, seems that through the eye of a gifted photographer, ,you don't really need color to capture the beauty of a scene.....not that I consider myself, one of those gifted artist, but one can dream....Cheers! Ruud, thank you my friend, it's always nice to have you around. Paolo, I know what you mean, I tend to favor saturated colors; oddly this is one of my least saturated images, the colors of this place are just beyond words. Saludos, Pete, thank you very much; it's always a pleasure to have you around. Cheers! Link to comment
pam11664882463 0 Posted July 22, 2008 I prefer your color version. You could make the image a pretty strong horizontal by eliminating the commercial structure. When you isolate the water, your eye can really follow the curve from the bottom right to (with cropping) the upper left. Just my opinion. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
godfather 0 Posted July 23, 2008 My favourite is this colour version. Actually comes my favourite because it looks a bit oldish, the sky colour is just great and my favourite little detail here. Besides that this looks great with this comp. Factory there gives a kind of sad mood for which goes well with this oldish colour scheme. Link to comment
bretsch 0 Posted July 23, 2008 Pam, thank you for your visit and comments; color is my favorite too ;) I also think that this place would make for a great panoramic, actually I shot some while I where there (some have already made it into my portfolio, and others may in the future), however in this particular case I really wanted to show the power plant in the back and the striking contrast it generates with its surroundings. Tero, I never thought about it looking kind of "old", but after reading your comment, I can see that it does; might have to do with the fact that this is not as saturated as most of my photos, and the fact that the sky was a little hazy that day (which incidentally was the part that took the most amount of work, to color manage properly). Cheers! Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted July 30, 2008 The color version is so unique. I prefer it to the B&W. Although there is a lot of visual interest in the B&W version, the contrast between the orange and blues is fantastic. I also like the puffing smokestacks in the background. Link to comment
bretsch 0 Posted July 30, 2008 Thank you Jeff, Always a pleasure reading your comment. As you've probably read before, this one is my favorite of the two, too! The natural colors of this place are so amazing that it really is a pleasure to walk around with a camera in this place. Cheers! Link to comment
richygale 0 Posted July 30, 2008 colour allways works for me, such a contrast in this image between the factory and beautiful view, great image well done. Rich. Link to comment
