Many times i characterize a photo as "alive".Well, here is a definition of it.Strong contrast, in sequence with the noise i suppose, excellent warm colors and tight crop that shows off the hard labour of this man.Best regards.

This is a great photograph but full of safety violations. I've worked in shops where gloves, goggles, and safety clothing needs to be worn to protect workers.

Well, you composed the shot perfectly, and even more impressive was that you exposed this difficult-to-compose scene quite well. But, the most impressive part of all is that you absolutely NAILED the shutter speed necessary to capture these fast-moving sparks with the perfect amount of motion blur. WELL DONE!! :)

Nice shot, however the grinding disk top left hand corner is a little distracting from the main subject,it does drawer the eye a little,it's a little to sharp for my liking.

An impresive capture with great colors and composition. The strength of this image is impressive.Masculine energy to the highest level. BR.

This photograph shows so much of the man and his trade. You see him working and note his stained hands, the outlined tools with those being used taken down. He's intent on his craft, working. I love the lighting. One small point, I didn't understand. On his pants, there is that straight line between darker and lighter cloth. It's not quite a shadow and may have been caused by the lighting or something else throwing a shadow, but I couldn't tell, lack of knowledge on my part. In any event, I quite enjoyed this photograph, so strong.

Let me tell you why I love this shot. At first it just looks like a very skillful (so skillful that you are tempted to say lucky) shot where the colors and crispness make you feel like you are there. Then I noticed that the man was not wearing safety glasses or goggles, and I had an emotional moment. I kept staring at the image waiting and hoping that the blacksmith would not get a spark in his eye. It is so full of action that it draws you into it and you transcend consciousness observation. I feel that art should communicate to you on a subconscious level, and your work did that. I couldn't look away. Even now when I look at it I squint in a sympathetic attempt to help the man in the photo not get a spark in his eye.

And what is so great is that all of this sneaks up on you. I was quickly scrolling through the other photos and this one grabbed me and I could not let go.

Whether you expected this photo to come out exactly like this doesn't matter to me. The brilliance is that you spotted this amazing work.

Thank you.

Hello,

As many others have said, this is an astounding photograph. I'm not a photographer (only an amateur one when armed with a basic digital camera) but I have had an active interest in blacksmithing for the past 3 years. Could you let me know in which suburb of Athens you found this forge (workshop)? Perhaps if you don't want to communicate the address on this forum you could get my email from the Photo.net administrators? Thanks in advance.

From a Londoner recently settled in Athens.

fantastic shot, love it,All the radial lines emanating from the centre of action work really well. Don't think that he is in too much danger of getting sparks in the eye as one previous person commented. The sparks are all flying off in one plane only and as long as he doesn't stand in that plane, he is ok! Regards, erik

A wonderful shot in colors, action and atmosphere (though I must say from a pure practical point of the view the lack of safety equipment used bothers me!)
