michael anderson 0 Posted July 17, 2008 My intention in this image was to portray a a coral atoll that feels remote, surreal and timeless. The rock has a sculptured prehistoric presence almost like a fossil or an ancient monument. It is purposely spare and without reference to size. Do you guys think this rock in inherently interesting enough to make the overall concept work? JPG compression is adding noise that is not nearly as evident in the full size version. Thanks for any input you may have on this one! Link to comment
aline1 0 Posted July 17, 2008 What a work you do ... I just take a look on your portfolio, and I'm really impressed. The choice of the subject, the travel, the waiting for the right moment, all of these things must be for you a long work, then the catch and the postprocess must be also new long and hard steps. Then the result, amazing. What a knowledge you must have in photography. And what an eye. Link to comment
danbliss 0 Posted July 17, 2008 it is a beautiful image with interesting colors. Nicely done. Dan Link to comment
ewartphotography 0 Posted July 17, 2008 Very nice composition and colors. I see a bit of noise, but not enough to distract. Well done...John Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted July 17, 2008 It works for me, Mike. I think that it would benefit from a crop from the bottom of the frame. IMHO, there is too much distraction from the main story. Link to comment
anish 0 Posted July 17, 2008 I think the rock is interesting enough to carry the image, but it's really the light that makes it work for me. Anish Link to comment
john_langley2 0 Posted July 17, 2008 Beautiful capture and presentation !! My only minor negative is that I have no sense of scale whatsoever ???? john Link to comment
milena_safrova 0 Posted July 17, 2008 I think the subject seems monumental in your presentation Link to comment
rajeevthomas 1 Posted July 17, 2008 Michael, this is one of the best in your gallery...your intention is understood even without reading your description. I love the colors....placement of the rock...beautiful sky..etc... noise is visible but that is a minor issue... regards, Rajeev ........7/7!! Link to comment
sketch_tbhotmail.com 11 Posted July 17, 2008 Seriously understood, the moment I saw it, I pictured a fish walking out of the ocean. The tones and lighting in this are absolutely perfect man. Hope you're doing well. Link to comment
images_in_light_north_west 0 Posted July 18, 2008 Like it a lot, well done both technically and artistically.I was trying for something along these lines with this shot, though not as dramatic as yours. Ross http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7469136&size=lg Link to comment
jana 1 Posted July 20, 2008 An original piece. cheers Jana (only a tiny remark - the horizont is not very horizontal, but may be it was the God's will ) Link to comment
cphilpott 0 Posted July 26, 2008 I am really torn on this one. The image is technically well done and yet it feels empty to me. Well yes, three elements, land, sea, sky. The foreground is empty or too large a percentage of image. The horizon... I think for me the center image with no mystery, no missing pieces, no item that runs off the edge reduces the interest level for me and my eye leaves the shot sooner then I would think. But man, I am practicing this effect and you are a master, best regards. Link to comment
zambaras 0 Posted July 30, 2008 Your intention was the photo to create a sense of remoteness, surrealism and timelessness. By looking at it - and I did look at it several times, I get the feeling of this being remote, surreal and timeless. Nothing else is needed to characterise this as a great piece of work. Re foreground, I do like the plenty of empty space - underlines the 'middle of nowhere' out-of-this-space dimension. Regards, Nassos Link to comment
vincentfavre 2 Posted August 2, 2008 It seems to be an abstraction. I really love the tropical water colors contrasting with the pink sky. I just regret that the horizon leans a little toward the right Vincent Link to comment
