I'm afraid your "technical details" says it all, or too much of it, anyway. It looks just as you describe it: I used this and that technique, and then I tried to figure out what it was a picture of.

This is practice, then. Keep doing it. When you are comfortable with the techniques, then it will be time to think of the one thing you most want to say, and how best to say it.
