RickDB 10 Posted July 11, 2008 Perhaps one of the most famous Catholic pilgrimages in Asia. The red brick basilica was built between 1925-35, sharing the hill top with an old astronomical observatory. Link to comment

milena_safrova 0 Posted July 11, 2008 An interesting subject nicely captured. I think you could consider adding a bit more contrast, maybe to allow slightly more light to get into the space. But take it as my opinion only. Looking forward to other pictures from China. Best regards Link to comment
RickDB 10 Posted July 11, 2008 ...Salvador, thanks for your appeciation. I now understand why Dennis loves the Romanesque style so much - the simple lines and yet a strong and powerful form. Gothic architecture, which I really enjoy, begins to look fussy and over-embellished. Milena - thanks for your commets too - it was just the input I was looking for. I was not sure about this at all - sometimes I would think it was too dark and flat, but when I made adjustments I always ended up back where I started. It was a gloomy, overcast day and actually what you see is very much how it was. I think my tone mapping has limited the adjustments I can make - adding just a small amount of contrast immediately blows out the windows and turns shadow areas an unpleasant sooty black. I have some other ideas, back to the RAW files.... Cheers, RickDB Link to comment
RickDB 10 Posted July 12, 2008 Hi Milena - took your advice and added a little more light and contrast. Also painted in a little extra light into the apse via layer mask, which adds more focus. Much improved, thanks, RickDB Link to comment
milena_safrova 0 Posted July 12, 2008 Wow .... it is great now, really, such an improvement! Magnificent image with a raster of so soft tones. I cannot do such things on PC. Rick, I think the effort was worth it. Nice, very nice. Warm regards Link to comment
