I was struck by the colour of this door, especially in contrast to the

grey building. Maybe a more abstract comp would be better.. I like this

shot, but I think I may have tried to capture too much. Thoughts?

Thanks for looking.

I love the idea, and the shot is really very nice, although i would love to see the whole frame of the building for even better vertical contrast. So i think you didn,t include enough. This is very interesting to look at still!

Another vote for including the top of the building OR croping out the entire profile of the building so we are left with just the doors. It appears that you are standing slightly left of center- try and get centered since you have so many vertical lines. Also crop out the bottom stumps and things- distracts from the doors as the subject. Clone the light out too- does not add to doors and the oars.

This is a clear well-exposed image and the bright red color of this door is striking. The white in the door accentuates the red even more. My eyes are immediately drawn to this door because of those two bright colours, especially when the door is contrasted against the dull grey color of the building. If your intention was to focus on the door then you have certainly achieved that goal. In this photo that red color cannot be ignored. However, if the image were to be cropped so that everything to the right of the oar blade is removed then the image would not have as many distractions and then the eyes may not wander as much. In the cropped image I feel that the viewer's attention would become even more focused on the door. The red in the oar and the orange life preserver on the left would work well with the door. Their color and orientation compliments the door and they do/would not overly distract from it. I have also tried to look at the image with both preservers cropped out and I like that new image as well. The focus is on the door. Great photo.

Thanks for all your constructive comments! I really appreciate them. I'm going to try some of your suggestions, different crops, and a vertical composition. Cheers, Ian
