catherinevankempen 0 Posted July 7, 2008 I just went over to your portfolio to check out your other stuff and now I'm almost afraid to critique you in case you don't like what I have to say... Some of your stuff is seriously sick and I don't mean that in a bad way. Anyhow, if you promise not to come after me with some crazy voodoo curse I'll critique away. I'm not sure how I feel about this image. There is a cool illusion going on where the black area to the right of the frame next to her head almost looks like its her body and she's 'swooping' into the image. But then when I look closer I can see her shirt which then becomes kind of distracting. Again, I'm torn on this one. I think compositionally there are some things you could change, maybe take her head out of the center of the frame or loose some of the negative space or something but I don't think that's what's bothering me. Her expression is perfect for the idea but her pose may be too static, if there would be a way to shoot her so you can blend her more with the fire ... like have her hair flying back and then blending the hair in with the fire and then have that fire swirl around her. I saw you did some awesome things with your model's hair so I'm sure your more than up to that challenge. Maybe tilt her head backwards ... I'm just throwing this stuff out there. Don't curse me !!!! I think you are on to something, I just dont know if you're quite there yet. Good luck, oh, and I really liked your portfolio by the way. Catherine Link to comment
chipgarber 0 Posted July 7, 2008 Disturbing and brilliant. I agree that the shirt is distracting. Would have been more powerful topless. Incredibly creative. Link to comment
sickboy666 0 Posted July 21, 2008 Thanks to the three of you, we already have a nice conversation Catherine! i agree with you Mark, topless was the way, but my models are between 17 and 22 years old (when they are not children!), and i just can't ask them to get topless. But i will certainly do something with older girls. Thanks again! Link to comment
