Nave, St. Ignatius (Xujiahui) Cathedral, Shanghai (HDR)

Unexpected Gothic Cathedral in Shanghai - destroyed during the

cultural revolution, but now restored and featuring stained-glass windows

with an oriental flavor. For those interested, I have posted several other

pictures in my "China" folder.

I do not know if to laugh or cry ...A typical anonymous rating ... 3/3, no comment ... Interesting subject and well elaborated. I have checked other pictures of the church in your portfolio, that one taken with 10-22 is also very good. Best regards

Thanks for comments! Not a subject of interest to everyone and the subtle shades of grey need a properly tuned monitor, so I don't worry about ratings. I post just to share with other photographers who have the similar interests - such as yourself.

 

During the Cultural Revolution the windows were destroyed, but later replaced in an oriental style. I was interested to see how they would look, but gaining entrance to the church through the guarded iron fence with "NO Photography" signs needed an interpreter. Somehow my Chinese friend managed to get permission to take pictures between weddings - so this was all I could get in about 20 minutes. The 10-22 is ideal for handheld shots, but to try and get the windows I used a TS lens with a tripod. I would have liked more time, but consider myself lucky to come away with these few. Now I must go and see what you have been posting recently. Cheers, RickDB

Rick, I am afraid that you have not seen much new in my portfolio because I have been occupied with landscape recently, pretty demanding as for time and physical condition :-) The window looks well, you were lucky that you got through. Photography teaches one to be assertive (for my stained-glass windows in St. Vitus I crept through the exit to avoid 2 hours of waiting in the crowd). It reminds me that I have some more pictures prepared, I must post them. I am thinking about a wide-angle lens in fact I have only the simple 18-55 (and now newly EF 55-200 for landscape details).
