peter_daalder 0 Posted July 5, 2008 It is probably just me, but this looks like something that could be right up Von Däniken's alley. Link to comment
atlatling 4 Posted July 5, 2008 It's not just you, Peter. Several others have commented that these were spacemen and had von Daniken seen these images, he would have added them to his book as further proof of his somewhat scatterbrained theory. This canyon had two pictographs (painted figures), this one and one of a black dog-like figure, and scores of petroglyphs (images pecked into the rock face). some of which had been added onto by sheep herders. My wife Marcia and I had the great opportunity of recording the site located on private property in extreme northwestern Colorado. The two holding hands are unusual, but not really rare in the area. I have photographs showing a line of 16 people holding hands which I can only believe must depict a dance scene. Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted July 6, 2008 Thanks for the additional information, Bill. It certainly is a fascinating area of study. I'm sure that you both relished the opportunity to inspect and record the rock art at this particular site. We have a few of them around here, but they're not so easy to find/identify. On mainland Australia, there are numerous aboriginal rock art sites open to the public. At the same time, I was wondering if you have stumbled across Mike Connealy's portfolio? Click through to his personal website and discover the superb wealth of images and information on rock art in New Mexico. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted November 11, 2008 This is interesting on a number of levels, Bill, but on an artistic level it is worthy as an abstract study of pure color and form. Very nice work. --Lannie Link to comment
atlatling 4 Posted November 12, 2008 I can take no credit for this as it was done hundreds of years ago. I did have to climb up the cliff a way, however. Couldn't do that now. We just heard that many of the petroglyphs on this site were damaged this year by fires. Link to comment
