Needles

ian cameron

For the life of me I cannot remember which waterfall this shot was taken by, though I do remember it was huge. I saw this backlit pine tree with its tufts of long needles and then simultaneously noticed the fine backlit spray thrown out by the tremendous force of the falls which caused it to billow out and envelop everything including the tree. I realised that if I used a medium shutter speed I could cause that backlit water spray to stretch out into long needles of light which would echo that of the pine tree.Contax ST 80-200 zoom, f/6.3 at 1/60 sec, Provia 100.NEW!! The composition is excellent. The branches coming from the top right go with the flow of the water in the background. Well executed. Regards, Lawrence

Needless to say that the needles are magnificient. A good idea. I am glad that you include the technical details. I tried this once once, but did not remember exposure time. I'll keep my eyes open for this kind of opportunity. Best wishes. Peter
