I thought I was just snapping a shot of my sister and her new husband

but she wanted to use it as their wedding announcement photo!

What do you think I can do to improve?

I'd suggest you concentrate tighter on thier faces - too much else going on in the frame - the image is supposed to reflect thier union. have your future brother in law kneel or have your sister stand on a platform to approx. level their faces. Close in on their faces a little more to cut out details like clothing and that background - try using use a shallower depth of field to eliminate the sharper focused background which distracts from the faces of your subjects.

Both your sister and her man have good direct engagement with the lens and appear reasonably relaxed which is an element which works well and is very good to reproduce if you descide to re-shoot.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, your thoughtful critique is appreciated and I will keep your suggestions in mind...this is OK, but I would really love a re-shoot. Your points are very valid.

She is 5'5" and he is 6'4", which makes for a challenge but I sort of think that showing the height difference keeps the integrity of the pic intact, however I think as you do that bringing their faces closer with a less distracting background would be preferable.
