Even before I read the title, I thought, "What a placid scene." Apparently, it struck you the same way. I love how clear the water is. Lovely work.

This is absolutely stunning. The scene is beautiful anyways, and your composition and contrast/saturation levels couldn't be more perfect to express that. 7/7

The reflection is truly amazing, as well is the crystal clear view of the stones. Lovely photo!

Thank you Jeff, Danielle, and Wilana for your nice comments. Jeff.....I don't think I have ever seen St Mary Lake as still as it was on this morning. In just a few minutes alone here a person can deflate all the pressure built up through the week and walk away with a whole new attitude. Thanks again for your interest in my photos. Fred

This is a nice shot, the reflection is great. Some foreground is badly missing though, rendering this shot far from perfect.

I'd like to respectfully disagree with Mark's comment above. First, there is a foreground; it is the polished pebbles of preCambrian Belt Supergroup rocks in the gin-clear water. Second, your composition and image are all about 'tranquility' and 'natural calm.' If you'd have composed it with a different foreground, I'm inclined to think it'd have had a different feeling and mood. All in all, this is an excellent image very nicely seen and captured. I trust you are enjoying your summer, Amigo! Cheers! Chris

Well.....being an amateur photographer most of my work is far from perfect. I disagree with your comment regarding a lack of foreground. I think the colored stones falling away toward the reflection in the glassy water of St. Mary Lake make a very nice foreground. Although not a very bold one. A large stone or some other object or anchor point may have been better for hooking the viewer but it just wasn't there to work with and in my opinion it just wasn't called for in this image. And had there been something I probably would have cropped it or edited it out anyway because it would have interrupted the calm surface of the water which was what I was trying to capture along with the reflection. If you are suggesting that a crop eliminating the foreground rocks might be better, I would disagree with that too. That would have brought the mountains and reflection too the center of the image and would violate the rule of thirds principal making it even farther from perfect. If you have the time feel free to edit this photo and make any changes regarding composition so I can see what you have in mind. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Anything I can learn from anyone, weather praise or criticism, is of value to me. Fred

Thanks for your input Chris. You're right about a different foreground changing the mood of the image. This was a spectacular day. I had to drive down through East Glacier to get there due to the late opening of Logan Pass but it was definitely worth the trip. I am enjoying this summer. Everything is still so green around here. A big contrast to the hot smoky weather we had last year. Take care and keep shooting. Fred
