I like the colors and the idea, however it makes me motion sick/dizzy looking at it. Perhaps if you took the blur down a notch or two it would work more? Just my opinion, but great idea!

I don't love it and I don't hate it. Sorry, you probably didn't want to hear that ;) It is an attractive composition of color and pattern and it is nice to see such a painterly effect achieved through the simple expedient of moving the camera rather than post processing. But the big pale blobs of the iris blooms are not really interesting enough for their prominence in this image.

Jeff, thanks for your frank comment. It's what I'm looking for and has helped to pinpoint what I wasn't quite satisfied with. I think it is caught somewhere between too much and not enough blur. Which is probably creating Ashley's dizziness. I did take several shots at various shutter speeds and composition. Perhaps reducing the contrast on this would address some of the problem. Failing that, it's into the bin with the rest of the dinner.

I like the idea and applaud your experimentations with the camera. That being said, this one does not work well for me. I think your title hints at what makes this fall down to my eye. It does look like stew. The only reason Irises would come to mind is from the title.

Perhaps you were trying for a complete abstract. If you wanted to have some essence of the flowers remaining a slower motion or perhaps a less linear motion might have conveyed their spirit better. It is always a pleasure to drop by and see what fascinating and beautiful images your have created lately.

Gordon, panning is always a bit of an experiment, or pot luck you might say, if I dare to really stretch the pun. Giving evidence of the subject matter is not particularly my intent, but rather to produce an aesthetically pleasing image, be it impressionistic or entirely abstract. The reactions to this have been quite mixed, which shows that the eye and the mind work differently for us all. I agree with you that this one doesn't quite work, but that, for me, is more because of the contrasty colours than the pattern or degree of abstractness (is that a word?) Thanks very much for your contribution. It's much appreciated and hopefully will help me to refine this technique.
