edward_feltman 0 Posted January 13, 2001 I am just learning, but a few things struck me about this one. First I don't know that the subject centered realy did this one justice. Perhaps the boat in the lower right hand corner would balance the shot better although may have required too wide of an angle and loss of detail. Second, it looks like you suffer from the same scanner woes as I as the photo apears dark and the highlights moddeled. My scanner is a cheap one and causes me the same heartburn allthough I am afraid that the only answer is for me to buck up for a better one! Link to comment
scotth 0 Posted January 13, 2001 Edward, thanks for the constructive criticism. Let's take a look at it with the boat in the lower right...I liked the wake behind the boat and the feeling of space I got with the boat in the middle. I think I needed the island behind the boat to keep the entire picture from being a blue/gray blur. That said I kind of like it with the boat in the corner too. This picture was taken before sun-up on a cloudy misty day. The original scene was very flat. I looked at the original slide. There is more color in the original--some on the boat and some on the island in the background. (I scanned with a Minolta Scan Dual.) But part of me enjoys the feeling the lack of color in this image conveys. I've read a number of threads around here that seem to imply you're not going to get substantially more depth of color unless you buck up for a drum scanner. Which at $100k isn't a realistic option.
