I admit, I turned up the bokeh in the background. Turned up too much?

This was put together for a 16x20 poster for this young athlete. I chose

the main picture for the grit and determination and the form exhibited in

the swing. Good, not so good... I appreciate any feedback.

i guess you could argue that it's turned up to much since the 3 others aren't, but the people receiving this pic probably wont' notice since they are more worried about how their son looks etc. the lighting is good for the shots and i like how it all flows together well

I appreciate your comments. I was at the ball park primarily shooting for another team. I promised his parents I would try to get over to his game and get a couple shots. Fortunely for me, he was a very easy player to shoot... very active. I only had one inning to work with and he managed to get a hit and score a run. I was tempted to crop closer on the top frame because of his full charge grrrrrrr. But as you point out I wanted the strip to flow, which meant going far to near. Thanks again.

I appreciate your feedback and positive encouragement! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Maybe one day I'll see one of these kids in the Major League. Then I can boast that I have the true rookie shot... LOL.

Terry, great shots and great execution for a youth sports poster. I shoot a lot of youth sports for myself and other parents as well. When you look at most of the junk being sold to them you realize that they don't really appreciate good shots. As long as their child is somewhere in the frame. These are excellent.

...for taking time to leave such an encouraging comment. I agree about the quality of images you find with most sports events photography. But it is all fueled by $$$. I guess if there are parents willing to pay for photos no matter how bland, then someone's always willing to take them and sell them. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) I have a non-photography job. So I don't rely on these images to support my living. I've learned that most parents are not willing to spend much on these types of photos... no matter how much blood, sweat and effort I put into them. Based on the average sale, if I had to make my living doing this, I probably would spend much less time trying to craft quality images and spend more time cramming as many events as possible into my schedule.

That said... our local league does not seem to have a local photographer set up to handle team and individual photos. I'm going to use a number of these images to petition the league board to give me the work next year. It's a small league, so I hope to maintain or even improve on the photos I've already taken. Thanks again...

This is a nice concept, and while the bokeh may be up a bit, I think the consumer will appreciate the contrast, especially when it makes the young boy stand out.

Indeed... they loved the poster. I had it printed on the metallic paper and it really popped. Ever since, I've been putting together all sorts of posters for other kids in baseball, football and soccer. Recently I've added a couple new concepts to my poster offerings. One uses the same type poster above, but has a digital frame added that I purchased through Express Digital. The other is a narrower frame. I imitated a style that I saw another website trying to sell. I didn't buy it though. It didn't have any flashy graphics and was easy to assemble in Photoshop, then import to express digital. I'll attach a couple to this post. I appreciate your comment!
