davidschindlerphotography 0 Posted June 11, 2008 There were 2 Osprey with young nesting on the tufa about 200 yards off the shore of Mono Lake, which I thought was strange considering there are no fish in the lake.I asked the Ranger who said they fish at June Lake, which is about 15 miles away and bring the fish back to the nest at Mono Lake to feed their young. They nest off shore at Mono lake because their are safe from predators.Thank you for looking. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted June 11, 2008 Hi David, What a wonderful story that the photo backs up. Nature is really wonderful at times. I guess this is not going to be of interest to many - sadly I may add. Cheers Peter Link to comment
knobby6 1 Posted June 13, 2008 I also find the story interesting. You would think they could find a nesting spot closer to where they fish. In Newport backbay the ospreys nest right on the edge of the water on a platform built for them. Breakfast off your front porch. There are 3 babies there at this time and they had babies the last 3 years in a row, Not as common as sparrows, but there is quite a few osprey in the greater Los Angeles area now. Link to comment
