When I saw this in thumbnail form, on the same page as some Air Force photos taken in Afghanistan, I thought I was seeing a load of bombs falling from a B-52. It's a familiar image to those of us who grew up watching news footage from Vietnam and to find that it's really just birds in flight is very sobering.

My Gosh,Verna...this is genius in it's simplicity and execution. I've just been sitting here and looking at it,and admiring. What an incredible feeling it must have been to focus in on this shot. You had to have known it was going to be something very special!

This photo is as much a part of nature as the one you cited. I don;t see how you can even compare the two, but that is what IMO is all about.

Look at this again... it is majestic. I see the glory of the boundless sky contrasted by the insignificance of a flock of birds in flight. Deeply moving... an image captured that sends chills up and down my spine. This image sends hope... the one that our critic poses is another lovely National Geo image. Nice bird, lovely plumage.

Very well done you were certainly at the right place at the right time. Keep up the good work. Best picture I've seen for a long time.

i particularly like the way in which the birds at the lead of the formation were captured in the opening of the clouds in the lower left. This is truly a beautiful image of birds in flight.
