Totally cool shot. In this instance, I like the somewhat processed look and the flat, harsh light. How did you light the shot and how did you process it? What do you use to pull out noise? Well planned and executed, great DOF, perfect shot. Cheers, Jay

This is perfect. You controlled all of the nerdy technical elements with mastery, and, what's more, you have the artistic discipline to not freak out and ruin the photograph by going the full strobist vibe or post processing this into mush with unnecessary software masturbation. The flash setup is straightforward and adds to the vibe rather than becoming a distraction, and your post processing choices show the same thoughtfulness. You only did what was necessary to support the vision, which ended up making the whole stronger and more direct.

Light, colors, view angle, body position, ground texture... five strong "details" of this very good and original photo. Best regards.

Jay: I used a flash with a shoot through umbrella to the right and one with a snoot held up high over her from directly in front of the camera by somebody else. As far as noise, I used the noise reduction in adobe raw and it seemed to do the trick. Most of the post processing was nothing more than a lot of dodging and burning and some very slight levels adjustments. I also used some simulated warming and cooling filters in selected areas to give a variety of tones.

Matt: Thanks a lot! This was actually my first experience with off-camera lighting. I was using a friends two strobes and he was assisting me with settings and such. He totally let me do whatever I wanted, so I still had total freedom to do what I wanted. The pose was random, she just laid down while I was fooling with something else, and it looked great so we shot it. After this shoot, I quickly placed an order for my own strobes, haha. Just too much fun, and not as hard as I thought it would be!
