rsminton 0 Posted September 3, 2002 I went to Nashville and Memphis on a photo shoot recently (I'm a copywriter for an ad agency... not a pro photographer) and snapped this one off before being lucky enough to go and jam in the studio. It's a simple shot, but the blend of colors and textures appeals to me. What do you think? Link to comment
ericc22 0 Posted September 7, 2002 Cool picture Robert. I like the composition quite a bit. The angle is great and I think you have the right balance of brick and sky. Did you use a polarizer? I suspect you can't do anything about it, but I wonder if there is anything you can do to deal with the white space on the lower left as it is a bit distracting. The biggest issue I have is that my eye gets drawn first to the upper right, then the lower left, and finally to the subject into the center. Again, I am not sure how to deal with that. Nice work. rsminton 0 Posted September 7, 2002 Eric, I love white space. But a problem I'm sure I'm not the first to notice is that whatever color you choose for the background of a photo (I'm talking about the matte, web page or whatever the photo is presented on) is basically made useless in the photo itself. This is why I use a dark gray background when I create web photo galleries. Even within the photo, white appears to be clear or nonexistant when presented on a white background, It's even worse when, as in this photo, white appears at the edge of the photo. Link to comment
rsminton 0 Posted September 7, 2002 Sorry, Eric. I forgot to answer your question. No polarizer was used. Thanks again for your comments. -Rob Link to comment
tonys 0 Posted September 8, 2002 I agree with you Robert that the blend of colors and textures catch the eye immediately but beyond that I fail to see the artistic value of this shot. It might have a commercial value for an ad agency and your photographers colleagues will surely tell you more about it. Link to comment
chiba 0 Posted September 14, 2002 OK, so you went for rakish, but it needs more than that. Not interesting, sorry. Link to comment
