Star Trails Over Mt. Adams, Washington

This "photo" is actually a composite of two images taken from a camera set in place before sunset to capture the Perseides meteor shower. I photographed the sunset with a 2 stop grad ND filter to capture the last glow of the setting sun on Mt. Adams, then came back about two hours later to capture 30 minutes of star trails. The water was so still, the reflected star trails are perfect in the water...but the meteor shower was a dud that evening, and only one meteor is (barely) visible. From this location, TakhLakh, a lake just west and slightly south of Mt. Adams, the meteors fall tracing a path directed straight at the summit of Mt. Adams.

Well done. The story adds so much to the understanding of the shot, the location the methods, thank you. Well done star trails, the composite effect is very effective here and you execute it flawlessly.

Wonderful image. Very well executed. 30 minutes exposure and foreground grass is stunningly blurless. You are very lucky to get this shot. I wouldn't dare to compose with the grass. Congratulations -Swamy
