davev 0 Posted May 19, 2008 I took this photo with my latest camera, a Canon XSi with a Canon 300mm F2.8 i.s. lens. Also, a Canon 2X tc and a Quantaray 2X tc was on the camera. This was hand held at 1/500th/sec, ISO 1600, wide open. Link to comment
cmouli 0 Posted May 19, 2008 excellent for a hand-held shot! could you comment on any post processing - for e.g, contrast adj, USM etc.? am I correct in saying this is equivalent to 300X1.5X2X2 = 1800mm zoom. that's almost a telescope! well done & thanks for sharing. Link to comment
dean_tilley1 0 Posted May 20, 2008 I like the defined craters and the contrasting shades of greys. I never thought that the moon could look so much like a ball of ice! Definitely a 6.5/7 Link to comment
davev 0 Posted May 20, 2008 This was the first time I tried stacking TC's, and the first shots at the moon with the 300mm lens. I came up with 1920mm total, 300mm x 2 x 2 x 1.6 = 1920mm I shot this as a JPG, but I open my JPG's in adobe camera raw. Processing. open in camera raw some light sharpening, some light noise reduction. open in PS CS3. crop smart sharpen 150, 0.8, 0 resize to 1800 long side. smart sharpen, 90, 0.3, 0 smart blur 0.6, 8.8 (something like that) this step removes some noise. new gradient map layer, black and white. change blending to multiply. change opacity of gradient layer to some thing like 30% (these gradient map steps add contrast to the shot) some other fine adjustments, curves, exposure, just some small changes. resize again to 1200 long side for web. one more really small dose of smart sharpen. 45, 0.3, 0 and that's it. It looks like a long list, but it only took 5 - 10 minutes. Thanks for the comments. dave. Link to comment
