City Hall Dome from the Inside

I'm usually not great at getting architecture shots right. This one

seemed to work for me. Any suggestions for improvement or general

feedback is always greatly appreciated. Thanks for viewing and please

The tones and details and dof are good. You have included a good selection of plaster work to give an idea of the grandeur of this building. But I am a little annoyed at the clipped edge of the dome centre and the roundel at top right. Just a little more distance and it might not feel so cramped.

I tend to agree. I have a zoom which goes down to 28mm, but on a digital SLR that really isn't much of a wide angle. I remember wishing I had a wider field. I need to get a lens down to 15 or 17mm for architectural opportunities such as this.

Hello Phillip, I have had the good fortune of photographing this kind of work myself. When you walk into these buildings and look up the feeling is one of whoa, it's as if the ceiling is trying to reach for the heavens and take you with it. And that is what is lacking in your photo. Yes, you have done a good job on the compositon. I agree with Hanna, back of a little and perhaps include a little more. Maybe some of the arches, this will lift the ceiling if you know what I mean.

Important thing that it's nice looking, ha!

Sometimes we find beauty by seeing things in a way that they aren't immediately recognizable.

 

Though I wouldn't be so forward as to offer this as a good example. The composition leaves a bit to be desired... but the quality/tonality of lighting is at least to me rather interesting and the fine architectural detail is not something one often runs across in government buildings here in the U.S.
