pjduncan 0 Posted May 17, 2008 Something seems unbalanced, yet I like this enough to try posting it. Any suggestions? Link to comment
pjduncan 0 Posted May 17, 2008 Thanks, I really appreciate the first rating being a 3/3 without any comment on what I might improve. Totally special. That will certainly point me in the right direction. Link to comment
ray.koushik 0 Posted May 17, 2008 i think the photo with translucent petals is nice by itself. however, it is not immediately recognizable as a rose. so, i do not think it works as a pic of a rose, if we wish to stress on "rose" --- it does not capture the intricate assemblage of petals of a rose. how about keeping just the translucent part? i think that's be a good pic too. compliments -koushik Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted May 17, 2008 i think this is lovely. i don't necessarily recognize it as a rose, but the petals with backlighting and shadows are wonderful. you questioned the composition. i think it might be improved if you crop off the right even though that does have the rose bud. pjduncan 0 Posted May 17, 2008 Thanks for the comments/suggestions. Linda, on the cropping, is it a balance issue, clutter or perhaps the rather over hard edge of the bottom right petal that makes you think cropping on the right would help? I tried some different crops but thought I liked the dark on the right to balance the left. The clutter and the edge I'm not totally happy with. I shot RAW format and convert with software and probably used too sharp of a setting without noticing what it had done to that edge. I could go back and reconvert or perhaps just blur that corner a bit in photoshop. Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted May 18, 2008 Phillip, i don't think you made it too sharp. the sharpness looks just right to me. i think the issue is both the clutter and balance. i think the color and shadows on the petals are stong enough to balance the dark upper left corner. i am attaching a cropped copy to show you what i think would look best. but of course it is your image, so ultimatley it is your decisioin to make. pjduncan 0 Posted May 18, 2008 Linda, Thanks for the help. I think you've convinced me. Sometimes I wish there were a specific request queue where one could submit a raw shot from the camera for others to crop, adjust and photoshop. For me it's always incredibly educational to see what different people do with the same image. Please, if time permits, check out some more of my portfolio. Hints are always appreciated, even if you don't have time to edit yourself. Link to comment
