The light was just right on this guy.

Ok I have come back to this photo and your correct the light is just right ( unusual)and the head is sharp, it got my attention but how did you get a black back ground and this close to the bird? Are those shadows on the tail feathers? Botton line, captivating.

It was a bright day and this guy was on the edge of a shadow from the tree behind the birds. I spot metered for his face and because the background was in the shade it was underexposed, so that is how I got the black surround.
