dseltzer 0 Posted May 15, 2008 This is another attempt to be creative about making a flower picture. Certainly not pretty, as many flower pics are, but I thought it might be interesting to show the end of the flower life cycle. Is this interesting? Is the composition worthy. If not, what would make it better, or perhaps you think it isn't worthy of posting at all. If so, please say so. Thanks in advance for your time and comments. Link to comment
peter.blum 0 Posted May 15, 2008 Hello Dave, Yes, it is definitely a different kind of flower image. Like the fact that you try to a different approach, there are so many conventional images of this kind. Like the subject and find it an interesting and worthy motive. I have the following critical comments: A sligthly bigger depth of field might have put the whole image in focus. As it is, part of it lacks sharpness. Second, I would have preferred more contrast to the background. so that the motive stands out better. This you could fix with any software, you don't even need PS. And good luck with your endeaviours. All the best Peter Link to comment
hultstrom1 0 Posted May 15, 2008 I like the picture. It is certainly more intresting than most flower shots here. As the first commentator said you have a problem with the depth of field. I dont think you should extend it though. I think you should make sure that only the very foreground is sharp, as it is now there is an unsharp bit of stalk and then a band of sharpness. This is not perfect. In addition, you have beautiful, sharp, contrasts in the dried flower while the background is nicely blurred. The problem is that the flower is almost black and white and the background is brightly coloured. I think that if you made the image black and white, or heavily desaturated the green the flower would draw more attention. Yours, Michael Link to comment
doug_gentry 0 Posted May 16, 2008 Greeting David, I like your presentation here! Bold framing! The DoF issue for me works well! The out of focus leads your eye into the center of interest! Excellent work! Regards, Doug. Link to comment
dseltzer 0 Posted May 21, 2008 It's good to know you like this and that the DoF works for you. I can see how it might not for some, given the unexpected interaction between the flower and stem, and the plane of focus. It does the same for my eye as yours, drawing me into the spent flower, and the two out of focus background stems also help direct the eye to the flower. Thanks a lot for taking a look and commenting! Link to comment
