chad_goldman 0 Posted May 5, 2008 Bald Eagle C-52 @ Patoka Lake Res. Is the forehead blown out? is the over all photo too dark? thanks for your input, cg Link to comment
wyndshadow 0 Posted May 5, 2008 I don't think your forehead is blown out at all! The photo is a touch dark, but is this a young bald eagle? If he is just losing his immature plumage, I would expect a little grey and brown in his head and not the pure white feathers. He looks young to me, which makes this a marvelous capture. Nice and sharp, too. Link to comment
kent_barry 0 Posted May 5, 2008 I agree. The forehead isn't blown out. The rest of the shot does appear just a little dark, though. It really doesn't need much work. It's a good picture with nice detail. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 5, 2008 Hi Chad, A few things. I lifted the shadows a little & some unsharp mask. Must say I am not a fan of flash pin hole in the eye. Yes, I think it was underexposed, if your reflected meter was reading off white feathers, what do you expect? Exactly, 18% reflectance grey which is about what you got. Learn the zone system and how meters work. It does not mater how intelligent people say they are, reflected is flawed unless you adjust. I also notice the beak is softer than they eye. This is lack of depth of field - its not easy, but you need to look out for it. It could be made worse by over cropping so it becomes more noticeable. But, they are a spectacular bird aren't they! Guest Guest Posted May 5, 2008 Like the others said before me, the head isn't blown out, you can still see all the details there. But I do think that your photo is a bit underexposed and it also has a slight colorcast. I tried to correct both with this as a result. Regards, Jeroen Link to comment
chad_goldman 0 Posted May 6, 2008 Thanks for they many comments. I allowed the photo to be darker because I was afraid of losing detail in the head. I'm stuck on a lap top and do not have the greatest portrait of light. As the monitor moves the contrast changes. i'm never sure of what you all see. Thanks again, any wisdom you can bestow upon me always helps. thanks! cg Link to comment
