cameron_beebe1 0 Posted August 30, 2002 Usually when I click on the "Top Rated Photos" list it is just to look at the thumbnails to see if anything catches my eye. If so, I open it up to view it, not to rate it or tear it apart because it's not technically correct. This one did it for me. It caught my attention immediately. I can't get over how much I enjoy viewing this photograph. Beautiful. It would be a pleasure to have something like this on my wall. Link to comment
james_yule 0 Posted August 31, 2002 its got that overall pastel look. Dynamic! very good job. Link to comment
dan_montgomery1 0 Posted August 31, 2002 This 40-50 foot long, unfinished hull was near my college in Mass., sitting nearly dry in the marsh. It was several hundred yards from deeper water. I can only assume it was carried here during a time of storm/high water. We all called it The Ark. The only adjustment to this picture was "auto-levels" in PS, otherwise it is a straight shot. Thanks for the comments. Link to comment
paul_boghita 0 Posted August 31, 2002 What a geat shot of ark...err...art...;-) I like the detail the grass in the foreground, the light, the light aroung the boat.. and other things that don't come to mind right now. Well done and keep doing it. Link to comment
dave foster 0 Posted September 2, 2002 The detail in the foreground and the soft / saturated colors...this is beautiful. Very ethereal image. The 'Ark' seems to have a halo itself. Great work Dan. Keep up the great work. Link to comment
dan_archibald 0 Posted September 3, 2002 I like it! Especially the slight curve in the marshy horizon (which I may be imagining) that suggests the boat is really on top of the world. It's too bad the hull itself isn't a more attractive shape, but I suppose that complaint is even more petty than most! ;) Link to comment
eric_gilbert 0 Posted September 3, 2002 This is a fantastic shot-one of my favorites on this site. I get a very surreal and calming feeling when I look at it. The hazy/foggy conditions just add to the serenity of the photograph. Well done. Just one question, to what is the boat tied to? Regards, Eric. Link to comment
rick vincent 1 Posted September 3, 2002 On the surface it is just a photo of an inland beached boat, but the way it was photographed (perspective, and composition) and the conditions (lighting and fog) made this otherwise boring image look spiritual. The boat seems to glow and the seclusion of this location makes it look like this is a solemn place that is mostly untouched and untraveled upon by man. Fabulous photograph. Link to comment
damien_rommal 0 Posted September 5, 2002 It makes me think of "the ark". Feels as if the flood has ended and this massive ship is just simply stranded on the shore of a creek that was once a major river. If I didnt know better I would say it had a lot more social depth than I guess you intended it to. Link to comment
mac_alain 0 Posted September 22, 2002 A good "photograph" this. It works on more than one level. Nice. Except for... nah, just kidding. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted September 25, 2002 The composition is perfect to me, and the backlighting is interesting. Colors at the bottom ar very good as well. Yet, the colors on the boat itself and around it in the grass are faded, and that, imo, isn't a purely positive point. I also wish the sky could be more dramatic - well, if possible... Finally, I see a DOF issue here. It might be debatable actually, but I personally would have wish the near foreground to be sharper... So, an 8 / 8 seems right to me. Regards. Link to comment
adam_s._kibbe 0 Posted September 27, 2002 DOF (there are a lot of acronyms on this site) is sometimes overrated if not contrary to the character of a shot. In this case, to my own taste (imo?), the fuzzy edges help this epic ambiguity. The boat is remembering when it was useful, the land remembers when the water held sway. Even the featureless sky plays to that sense of limbo. A moving image. Bravo! Adam Link to comment
