Verna: How can you keep track of all the adjustments on the D60? You must be getting very comfortable with it.

This is truly outstanding image, obviously made with affection and care. Wonderfully evocative of so many warm emotions. Great work.

Good depth of field and an excellent job lighting the childs face behind the mother, very tough. The expressions don't denote fear to me, peace maybe, serenity. My only picks would be the way the lighting falls of at the mothers chin and the double triangle shadow on the moms cheeck (I have no idea how that happenned!). As mentioned in previous threads, lighting at wedding receptions is horrendous to cope with, and you have done a good job again.

...maybe a little too close, I'd like to see as much of the mother's shoulder as you see, here, of the childs shoulder. As it is, kinda looks like the child is holding a disembodied head. The lighting on the childs face is great tho... looks studio lit to me. :)

The triangle had to happen when I rush edited in

photo shop....mom had many bad skin issues and I guess I didn't notice afterwards...this is a fix I can deal with. The light falling off mom's face is a possible fix...any one with PS have any tips for this chin lighting fix?

Here is the orginal photo I had to work with.

Gives you an idea how I got to this final upload.

The light fall off on MoMs cheek came from the bouncer on flash aimed

incorrectly for the down shot... :-( hard to think of everything

in such a tight moment.

Its stronger in B&W, I think. Its a nice shot, the light on the womens face is a little distracting in its patchiness. But overall its a nice tender portrait, not too close I think, different yes, but thats a good thing. I'm coming to grips with flash on my D60 at the moment.

You were right to make it B&W - it's a classic portrait now, so tender. The light on the child's face highlights him/her as the subject, while mom is slightly soft focus, fading in importance. I think this is really lovely and you did a fine job. I would be proud to have taken this, especially knowing it is a candid.

Good work on origin caputre and the post shoot tweking. The hour glass pattern on Mom's cheek may need more work. A little more off the top on the heads may reinforce the image more. Looks tender and sweet - what do your sitters have to say about this.

I wouldn't have guessed it was a candid. Thanks for showing the original, it makes you appreciate it that much more. Really nice job.

This is a lovely double portrait.

Better in B&W than in color.

Camera angle, expression, eyes, everything is just right.

I personally would change the title.

A quiet powerful portrait like this should not prompt the question "Why Stage Fright ?"

I love it with no title or even the much used

down the centuries but always relevant.....

"Mother & Child."

Wish I'd taken this shot.
