kietkopelli 0 Posted January 13, 2001 This say seem brutal but this image utterly sucks. What is the subject? If it's the hole, it's out of focus. If it's the (presumably) women, what does it convey? Link to comment
jerry_johanson1 0 Posted February 15, 2001 if the subject is the women then it would have been better if they're facing the camera somehow. i personally don't like looking at backs. Link to comment
ezra 0 Posted March 6, 2001 I think the image composition here is great! It's like... a view into another world, or perhaps a look through the keyhole, figuratively speaking. Obviously, the subject is either the women on the street, or the street itself. If it was a bird on a bush and the bush was out of focus, would you wonder if that was the intended subject? One thing I don't understand is the caption, unless it's the location. Link to comment
justin norell 0 Posted March 26, 2001 i really like this photo. it reminds me of artistic european movies where a character is skulking around in some building, and peers out of a window at some of the people they are trying to avoid. i can almost hear their anxious breathing... Link to comment
mr 0 Posted April 2, 2001 ...I also was going to suggest a tighter crop--I prefer the image that results. Very intriguing, and it does have a "movie still" kind of look to it! Link to comment
kristian 0 Posted April 26, 2001 An excellent picture. Great timing, execution and response to a fabulous opportunity. The guy who thinks the border should be in focus sucks!!! What is that?? He obviously knows nothing, and owns a wizz bang camera he can't use..like an EOS 1V or F5. Well done here. Link to comment
corey_wise1 0 Posted April 27, 2001 Ah, I think the guy who said the picture sucks had last weeks picture of the week. So I don't think it's that he doesn't or isn't able to use a camera judging by his portfolio. Though I suspected that too when I read his sort of crass response to what I thought was a well done image. Link to comment
samuel_dilworth 0 Posted May 20, 2001 The best thing about this image is that the hole echoes the shape of the cloaked figures. This is partly lost in the suggested crop, although I do agree that there is too much black in the original. Link to comment
paul_harris 0 Posted June 1, 2001 I enjoy the picture. A nice "flash of life." I think the timing is perfect. I prefer the composition as it is more than cropped. It has attracted more than its share of strange comments! It might be good to know what relation the title bears to the subject - one of a series? As for deep questions of "meaning"; not so important, perhaps. It is just a momentary view, with a feeling of atmosphere, successfuly captured. For a moment, I am taken to that place/mood. think27 0 Posted June 8, 2001 Well done. Very unusual... 9 for originality. A secret glimpse of life. Love it~ Link to comment
chris_whaley 0 Posted June 29, 2001 Obviously the women are the focus and the portal that surrounds it is the framing. I feel this is a nice photograph...if you think it sucks I'm sure there is a more constuctive and helpful way to state it if you can get your head out of your arse and think with it. Link to comment
darragh 0 Posted July 28, 2001 I think it's perfect. The large dark border is all important for me cause it tells me so much about how and where the photo was taken, and the atmosphere in the air. The turned backs of the women add to that element of silent street photograhy, a private walk, a conversation, caught in a moment. Well done. Where was it taken? Link to comment
roger_wesson 0 Posted September 14, 2001 This is a good idea for an atmospheric shot, but I think in this case it doesn't work. I think you need to be closer to the hole to show more of the subject, and the edges of the hole could do with being a bit sharper (these two may be mutually exclusive though). Also there's more black at the top than the bottom, which I don't like. Link to comment
frank_mc_clellan 0 Posted September 21, 2001 Although this picture is exceptionally well done, I found the overpowering natural frame too much. It was a few seconds before I even noticed the two people (the subjects) of the photo. Link to comment
