ericc22 0 Posted August 26, 2002 Robert, This pic tells a great story! Nice eye to catch it. That is certainly a job I don't want! The big issue to me is the blown-out highlight of the fall. Tough to control that type of f-stop disparity. I have almost no experience with them, but I wonder if either a graduated neutral density filter would have helped, or a split GND. In terms of composition, I might have moved the man farther to the right as the stuff to the right distracts me a bit. How come you didn't go in for a close-up of this guy? : ) Eric Link to comment
rsminton 0 Posted August 26, 2002 I did get in closer from the other side, but the guy was blocked by weeds and the big falls were lost. Link to comment
brian l. schiele 0 Posted August 27, 2002 To me this isn't such an interesting photograph. At initial glance, it looks like the guy is doing any number of things, but it is only after a lengthy examination of the photograph that you can somewhat see that he is using a "weed whacker". I do agree with Eric, that the white in the upper left corner is quite distracting as well as the rock in the opposite corner. Link to comment
tonys 0 Posted August 30, 2002 This is a shot of a dangerous rescue operation and you had very serious limitations while shooting it. The limited shooting angle required a long focal length lens, in order to zoom on the subject, but all you had was the 70 mm of your camera. You can probably blow out the main subject when printing and reframe the picture. I tried that in software and amazing details are suddenly visible but doing it on the original film might give by far better results. Otherwise the exposure is correct and the framing is acceptable. What do you think of my attempt to blow it out? Link to comment
