I like this image. Liked the thumbnail too. The metal gate on the left and especially the gentley increasing focus lead us nicely towards the main subject. The dark area on the right keeps us with the face. my first reaction was that the bright area in the back is too distracting, but it's not. It's very good, it strengthens the idea that this is where the main subject is.

I'm not a smoker, so I'm bothered by the fact that he is smoking. And the smoke coming out of his mouth obscures a small part of his face -- not very nice. The cigarette and the hand holding the cigarette are slightly cut off -- also not all that nice. In general, the smoking part does not seem to be a dominant idea in this image (more a coincidence), and as such I'd say just leave it out. Maybe even reshoot the image.

Or if smoking is a very important part of his personality, then put it more boldly into your image.

All in all, very nicely done.
