A beautiful horse. Your attempt to do an extreme close up or macro shot lacks the necessary detial for such a shot. More attention to the lighting and using a flash would help. Hopefully you are using a tripod to insure better focus as well. The eye is the key feature of this shot so more attention to the detail lighting and color is important. Give it another go. You may surrprise yourself just by paying more attention to your camera settings.

very nice and original composition, almost abstract. More sharpness and better focus would have definitely improved the photo a lot
