The previous comment sums this up well for me too.

The only thing I don't like is the hard edge around the yellow sunlight. It takes away a little bit from the subtle tones and softness throughout the other parts of the image.

Very nice on the whole.

Regards.

Thank you Bob and Scott. I agree that it would have been nice if the light around the sun could have been a bit softer. Maybe I should have waited a little longer until the sun was farther below the horizon.

Thanks for the visit,

Mike

Hey Mike,

They are right about that bright spot with "hard" surrounding edge. This is why I pretty much stopped trying to do sunsets. Even with a diffuse sunset like this, the light remains strongly concentrated at the horizon. Finally I purchased a couple of pricey GND filters in hopes of dealing with this. Actually, the really interesting part of this photo is the light reflecting off the surf/sand interface. It's just overwhelmed by that bright spot, and the beautiful long exposure of the surf is barely noticeable. I want to try to combine this long exposure with a GND and see if anything happens, but I don't think it will make any difference. You could try dodging the foreground in this case, that might help enough. Anyway, I like your new experimeents.
