ken_bufton 0 Posted January 20, 2002 Very nice traditional portrait. Personally I'm not a great fan of black backgrounds unless it's a low key shot. The only other thing Micheal is the shadow under her chin and in between her neck and hair on her right side could have been killed by some reflected light. She is a lovely model and I think you've done a great job in capturing her! The tones are nice and there are nice catchlights in her eyes. Well done. Link to comment
lucas_griego 0 Posted January 20, 2002 Portraits on a black background always seem a bit flat to me - I mean I have several I've shot and thought the same thing as well.. One thing you might try - only a suggestion... is to add some directional folds in the black backdrop (is it velvet? if it's paper disregard) and then it with enough light.. most of the light will get absorbed and just a small amount will show up - rendering the edge of the fold with background with some depth. Though some of the effectiveness of this may depend on how closely you crop the final version. Anyhow.. the model is attractive and the pose is fine.. the shadow under chin could be filled a bit.. the background or the scan has some small bits that need to be touched out and the top has a funny edge coming down that got missed... and for a traditional portrait my pet peeve is fly-away hairs - she's got a few. Though easily remedied in Pshop or the darkroom.. Overall - very nice traditional style portrait. cheers, Luc Link to comment

bob fowler 8 Posted January 22, 2002 I have to concur with the poster who mentioned the shadows under the chin. Other than that, no problems. Great job. Link to comment
