mg 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Great light, and a good and strong mood, as well as a neat composition. I find this better than your color version. It lacks the appeal of color probably, but the composition is better and the light is better imo. Regards. Link to comment
pedja 1 Posted August 23, 2002 Nice work. Good tonal range, pleasing composition, feeling of tranquility. Why is the yacht not going to be finished? Is it abandoned? Link to comment
john_pettitt 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Speaking as somebody who photographs boats for money this is a shot I'd be proud of. It's spot on in every respect. Link to comment
dabar 0 Posted August 23, 2002 I just would prefer that some detail showed in the water at the bottom. Perhaps it does, just not on my monitor. Link to comment
atle.g 0 Posted August 23, 2002 I have tried but can't find any thing in the composition to pick on. was thinking of suggesting a mild bottom crop, but i feel the image is better like it is. And most important; it's a image with great mood!! Link to comment
seven 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Strong composition and vaguely ethereal. It might be a gamma issue, but do you have detail of all the mast's reflection in the original? Reason I ask is that if you don't, the sole improvement (and this is a moot point) would be a very slight crop off the bottom : you might lose some shadows and gain from centring the yachts. But, as qualified above, a moot point. It really is an exceptional image, quite beautiful. Congratulations. Link to comment
nomade 1 Posted August 23, 2002 This is a perfect shot. The rich tonal range helps to create a tranquility feeling to it. Very well composed, technically flawless (at least for me, not an expert). Link to comment
ann_mester 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Lovely. this is a new archtype for me as I try to learn darkroom technique! Link to comment
akbar 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Beautifully exposed. Youve got a great range of tones. The haze in the background adds atmosphere and adds to the depth. Is it just me or is the image slightly tilted to the right? Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted August 23, 2002 An unoriginal subject but a perfect execution. Great light and balance of composition. Link to comment
mclaine 0 Posted August 23, 2002 Predrag, The economy is depressed here. The boat looks very neglected. I'm guessing the 2 facts are related. Cheers, Link to comment
dumpster001 1 Posted August 24, 2002 Perfect. Not so original subject, but the composition and light create a nice appeal. Did you have do any burning at the bottom? Link to comment
mudshark 0 Posted August 24, 2002 Very nice photo John. Good balance. Good tonal range. Well composed. Well Done! Link to comment
bees knees 0 Posted August 24, 2002 very, very nice in all aspects. Being a landlubber, I would have never understood the title though, without your explanation. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 24, 2002 Amazing misty mood and deep sense of calmness. Mysterious feel beyond the boats gave it a nice touch. Good work. Link to comment
paul_frank 0 Posted August 24, 2002 Most photographs I see on photo.net of this variety suffer from a lack of attention to detail. This is not the case here, this shows wonder placement of the posts, and great attention to tones. The range and depth of tones is truly exceptional. If anything, I'd like to see a little more room above the mast, but that hardly detracts from the image. well done. Link to comment
carl_crosby3 0 Posted August 25, 2002 John: With all the other good comments, another would be superfluous. What makes a photograph great? I'm not sure, but yours has it! Link to comment
mclaine 0 Posted August 25, 2002 There is a lot of burning here. Printed straight, the water at the bottom is near white, as is the sky. Thank you and everyone for such kind comments. Cheers, Link to comment
peten 0 Posted August 25, 2002 Not a lot I can add to the above comments John, superb image in all respects.Pete. Link to comment
levi_bucsis 0 Posted August 26, 2002 Gorgeous. Very soft and beautiful lighting, excellent composition, and nice contrast. Link to comment
scott bulger 0 Posted February 6, 2003 This is beautiful John. I think it works better as a square, cropping up from the bottom, but this version is certainly well done. Link to comment
vicki_huynh 0 Posted February 25, 2003 Excellent composition. Beautiful tones. Great clarity. The fog and the light help to reinforce the idea of abandonment and melancholy well. And yet, there is hope in the careful way everything is put together. Nice. Link to comment
