mattloeber 0 Posted April 7, 2008 I was just in Carmel for my honeymoon and it was so beautifil! This shot brings me back there! I love how the darkness of the sky really makes the crashing wave stand out! This photo has three distinct layers to it. Perfect composition! Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted April 7, 2008 A spellbinding capture. The sunlit foreground, crashing waves and torrential background contribute to a dramatic feel throughout this composition. The streams of light descending from the dark clouds is mesmerizing. Link to comment

kirk d 0 Posted April 7, 2008 The colors and lighting are magnificant. You captured the power; sea, sky and land. The ominous clouds pushing the sea, the sea surging over and around the rocks and the rocks casually standing strong. Kirk Link to comment
cjtj50 0 Posted April 7, 2008 Oh my this is very strikingly Beautiful. A wonderful mood and tones that are fantastic. 7/7 Take care Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted April 7, 2008 Excellent dramatic landscape with great contrast between the golden light on the foreground rocks and the somewhat threatening background. The sloping line of rocks rising to the right makes a good composition. You have also caught the waves perfectly. Link to comment
dacamera 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Beautiful, dramatic and realistic! That soft sky is the icing on the cake. Simon Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Matthew: Congratulations. Sounds like you chose well in many ways. Carmel/Monterey is so beautiful. You can see why people are willing to pay anything to live there. I hope you had a wonderful time on honeymoon. Peace. Adan: So continues my California dreaming. This shot was taken during our first trip to Monterey/Carmel, which has some unbelievably beautiful scenery. Thanks. Manuel: I didn't see the ocean until my mid 20's, and now, I can't see how I lived without it. The sound of subtle rolling onto the shoreline and rocks is remarkably calming. Claudio: I tweaked the color a little, but this is still quite close to the original drama of the scene. I appreciate you viewing this as painterly. Glauco: Thanks for your generous thoughts (and rating). I'm glad you liked the drama of the scene. Kirk: You write well. I can almost hear Charlton Heston (God rest his soul) reading your comment aloud. Joseph P: A natural cathedral, indeed. Thanks. Cynthia: Thanks. A shot like this is merely a matter of showing up. I appreciate your thoughts. Roger: I appreciate your analysis, always thorough, always making my photos sound better and more important than they actually are. Simon: Thanks. I see we're hovering near each other in the gallery. I'm gonna hop over and see your work. Link to comment
joe-tury 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Nice. Land, sea, and sky each displaying drama.I like the triangles of the shore and the frothy waves. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted April 8, 2008 I have a schizophrenic approach to photography. Most of the time, I like whatever is odd, unusual, and not easily metabolized. However, from time to time, I want to see whether I can still pull off a straight photo, hence this shot. The creative part of this comes entirely from nature. Anyhow, ramblings and more ramblings. Cheers. Link to comment
godfather 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Very unique outcome, guess the weather was rather spectacular on that day. The foreground rocks has really nice colours for which the sun hits. This yellow colour works perfectly with the dark blue clouds in the background... IMO, but what do i know about real landscapes :) Link to comment
mcclure 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Extraordinary - this looks like Photo Realism - really well done. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 8, 2008 Light and strong wave motion are wonderful, the golden browns and the cold blues are nature captured at its full beauty , Jeff. I hope you are well. Link to comment

ffrank 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Beautiful Jeff.....warm light, perfect color, detail, and the timing on the wave all come together to make a knockout composition. I wish I lived near the ocean. Link to comment

jeffl7 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Taking a break from work.... Tero: The light was really cool with patches of sunlight peeking through. Lucky, I guess. Thanks. John: Thanks. This was taken awhile back with my first digital camera, but stars must have aligned because it is clearer than most taken with it (still well-loved and my go-to back-up). Appreciated always. Pnina: Thanks. I always like the orange/blue combination, which makes its way into many of my photos. Hope you are well, too. A.K.: Nature unfettered by humankind. Nothing finer. Fred: The ocean is so meaningful. I grew up in Illinois surrounded by corn, so I didn't get to see the ocean until later in life. I still can't believe it's out there. Rakesh: Thanks for your thumbs up. Link to comment
drr 0 Posted April 9, 2008 Jeff, great work, as usual. I felt disappointed at your comment about nature unfettered by humans. I shoot landscapes and enjoy others', but they always look a bit empty without a person, an observer, to me. And so with your beautiful image - awe inspiring but missing the only element, even if only symbolically seen, that gives it value and meaning. I do note the strategic presence of the bird, a distant cousin. - Roy Link to comment
joe-tury 0 Posted April 9, 2008 "However, from time to time, I want to see whether I can still pull off a straight photo" . That's funny because I've been having the exact same thoughts lately. Although I prefer to work on digi-manips, the "straight shot" can be just as rewarding. On a side note, when I looked at this at work today, the word "photography" in your response was linked. When I clicked on it, a "Learn Photography" pop-up advertisement appeared. I don't see it here at home.Really strange. Link to comment
Donna Stavis 0 Posted April 9, 2008 Caramel color rocks are beautiful. I like the wildness-- jagged rocks, unruly sea, stormy clouds mitigated with subtle rays of sun in the distance and hint of calm blueness beyond the waves. It's raw, fresh, and refreshing, and the white water resembles clouds-cool capture. Link to comment
