Yes, cropping this shot pulls me into the image much more effectively. The shadow on the water is now a much stronger counterpoint to the heron. The concerns I see now are, a polarizing filter might have improved this shot and, we are looking at the shadow side of the bird against a bright background and some lightening of bird or darkening of background would be an improvement.
