jeffrey_cessna 0 Posted August 20, 2002 I'll finally throw my hat in. When I took this I had the plants centered, but I cropped the bottom and right sides to give a horizon and maybe movement. Comments? Thanks. Link to comment
root 0 Posted August 20, 2002 I like the left / right placement. It's more dynamic than I think you may have had it before, but I'd put a little bit back on the bottom. . . . about the same space as the top left leaf to the top edge. The curved lines are nice . . and I always admire photographers who take something intrinsically ugly and make something harmonious out of it. Link to comment
gauthier 0 Posted August 21, 2002 This is nice. The limited pink/green palette is unusual and attractive, while the dual curve looks very natural and harmonious. The smaller grass do not really create clutter - they just fill spaces that would other wise be too empty, in my opinion. In short, not a prize winner, but a fine picture nonetheless. I'm just back from the sea and I wonder if my own algae shots will turn out to be that nice. We'll see. Link to comment
audidudi 0 Posted August 22, 2002 Other than burning-in the corners slightly and adding a bit more space to the bottom, I wouldn't change a thing. Everything else, from the color of the sand to the shape and positioning of the plant, works well here. Nice one! Link to comment
j._scott_schrader 0 Posted August 23, 2002 I find this image to be composed very nicely, and I suspect quite effective as part of a series documenting this area. I think you did a good job with a difficult subject...dificult in the sense that I would never have looked twice at this if I walked past it on the beach. You were able to show us some of its natural beauty. I would have to say that you did a remarkable job with a very un-remarkable subject. A difficult task indeed. Link to comment
vance_kerslake__london__en 0 Posted August 23, 2002 I'm continually amazed by the photographers in this circle who take ordinary (even ugly) things and make them beautiful, usually things I wouldn't dream of photographing. This is another classic example! My only slight criticism is that I think the image is too tightly cropped. It feels a little crowded and the grass or whatever it is carries my eye to the left and out of the photo which seems to end somewhat abruptly. Link to comment
rjacksonphoto 0 Posted August 24, 2002 Excellent shot! This looks like palm trees blowing in the wind. Nice detail and the muted colors work well. I guess my only criticism relates to my impression of a landscape. I wonder what it would look like in landscape format with the subject in the left of the frame following the rule of thirds? It might better portray a sense of wind then. This cropping does seem a little tight. Then again, this might not be at all what you intended (although your title suggests it is). As is, an interesting still-life and detail shot with a surprising sense of motion. Link to comment
