Taken at a 40 sec. exposure to allow for reciprocity failure in the caverns.

The image is well composed and exposed overall.

The canyon opening at the top of the image,

which is in bright sunlight is, however, overexposed and hence "washed out" in terms of tonal range and image detail. One way to overcome this situation is to make two exposures; the excellent one that you made, and a second exposure of much shorter time to capture the detail and tonal range of the canyon opening. These two photos could then be combined via a digital image editor

to eliminate the two areas (canyon opening and the patch of the canyon floor being struck by direct sunlight) that were of necessity overexposed in the original photo.

Bill, I'm astonished by your comments. The "washed out" portions of the image add to the unreality of the result and intensify the feeling that the rock is a fire, fossilized.

Yeah, this is a great shot. The bright sky gives way to the ray witch gives way to the bright spot. If either the sky or the spot was changed it would look out of place. If this was my picture i would leave it like it is and be happy.

I agree the rays look a little too good, and I also thing the wshed out part adds to the pic too, Reall good photo.

I agree completely. The light tones are exceptional. The variations of sharpness of the light in certain areas adds to the overall compositon of the photo. Please don't touch this photo at all

it looks as if it was taken in the Red canyon next to Eilat Israel .

anyway it is just beautiful 10/10

I think this picture is fantastic. I think Mr. Bill Angel is jealous, because there is either a good picture, or a picture that just sucks, and this is a good picture, and when somebody trys to say how you can re invent it, or improves small aspects, is either jealous, or just somebody who looks for mistakes. Great Job!

I wish I could take pictures this good. And knowing it hasn't been "digitally edited" only adds to the magic. Leave the digital editing in Hollywood!

Excellent shot! Very good detail. In rating this photo, I gave you a 5 in originality however as I've seen this shot many times. Overall, excellent...

Yeah, Bill - you're right. But what this really needs is a waterfall. What shoulda been done is to combine this, and a good, foggy, moody shot of Tower Falls in Photoshop. Then it'd been a great picture, right?

The shaft of light turns this from an impressive shot into an amazing one. I wouldn't change a thing about it, and would be rightfully giddy if I had produced this image. Great job!
