si_thacker 0 Posted August 17, 2002 This is one of my favorite images that I've taken recently, and I'd like to know what other people think. Link to comment
robert_kerwin 2 Posted August 17, 2002 Interesting title--a comment on some less endearing aspects of modern society no doubt. I like the use of both straight lines and curves. The one distracting element is the blurry bit of chain-link fence in the upper right. Keep up the good work! - Robert Link to comment
mg 0 Posted August 17, 2002 I like it. I first thought of giving this an 8 in aethetics but then, I still miss the end of the telegraphic pole on the left. The whole image is going to the left and ends with a break rather than continuity... a detail that matters more than it seems with the title you decide to give to this. Given this title, I'd also consider that civilization is after progress, and therefore I'd suggest to flip the image horizontally. Symbolically, the left is the past, the right the future, and we read from left to right - both worded and visual messages. Here we start where we should arrive basically, and we are going to the past instead of going to the future - so, a flip will be right imo.Still, a graphically well composed and arresting image. ian_greant 0 Posted August 17, 2002 good dynamics and perspective. I find the top right corner a little distracting and would problably dodge it down some if it were mine. I think the crop is just about perfect. Link to comment
si_thacker 0 Posted August 17, 2002 Hmm...perhaps it means we're moving backwards as a civilization. OK, I'm just making things up now. Thanks for all your comments, I really appreciate them. Link to comment
chris_cobb 0 Posted August 17, 2002 I really like the movement in this photo - the lines and circular patter are real strong, especially with the framing of the smokestack(?) lower right. Link to comment

dominiquedodge 0 Posted August 29, 2002 I'm not trying to analyse this (I'll leave that to the pros), I just go by my gut feeling : superb! Thanks for this. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 7, 2002 I like it, and I'm not bothered by the fence in the upper right corner.. In fact I feel it all adds to the effect. Good Job Link to comment
greggw 0 Posted September 8, 2002 This is a great found shot (fence top, with razor wire along some street?) The deep depth of field keeps the razor wire sharp and still lets you see the detail in the power pole. I also like how the pole top on the lower right echoes the angle of the telephone pole on the left. Link to comment
robert_jones8 0 Posted September 9, 2002 Finally, someone on photo.net who TRULY understands composition, motion and dimensionality in a photograph, rather than just giving us the same glossy rehash of the National Geographic and Magnum stuff that's being touted as great. Si, this photo reminds me so much of Charles Scheeler, yet it's 100% you (whoever you are). Damn, this is great! I think it's the first 10/10 I've ever had the privelege to view. BTW: What does it mean? Who cares?! The meaning is the image ITSELF. Link to comment
